The New Westminster Minor Lacrosse Association is hosting its annual Doug Hazelwood Memorial Lacrosse Development Clinic on Feb. 22, to introduce the sport to new kids ages five to eight and those returning five-to-10 year olds who would like a chance to work off any rust.
The free clinic falls on Pink Shirt Day, which goes to raise anti-bullying awareness around the province. Participants in the camp will receive Doug Hazelwood pink t-shirts in honour of the event.
Attendees will be separated by age, with six-and-younger taking to the gym between 6:30 and 7:30 p.m.; those seven and up will go at 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. The event is held at Ecole Glenbrook Middle school, 701 Park Crescent, and is open to those registered for the upcoming season, and those just wanting to try it out. A parent or guardian must attend and sign an insurance waiver on behalf of the child. Proper gym shoes and helmet are required. Players with sticks and gloves are encouraged to bring them.
