The Coquitlam Adanacs have a four-point lead atop the Western Lacrosse Association standings

The Coquitlam Adanacs spotted the New Westminster Salmonbellies a 4-2 advantage at the end of the first period, but stormed back with eight goals in the second period and hung on to win their Western Lacrosse Association game, 13-11, Thursday at Queens Park Arena.

The victory was Coquitlam’s third in a row and extends the Adanacs’ lead atop the standings to four points over the Victoria Shamrocks and Nanaimo Timbermen. But Victoria has played three fewer games.

A pair of goals by Tom Johnson staked New Westminster to a 2-0 lead before the game was six minutes old.

Adam Dickson got one of the those back for the Adanacs but less than a minute later Jason Jones restored the Salmonbellies’ two-goal advantage.

Coquitlam’s Luke Jaber and New Westminster’s Colton Clark exchanged goals to round out the scoring in the first frame.

Three times in the second period the visitors battled back to tie the score until a goal by Dylan Watson 15:35 in put the Adanacs in front for the first time. They never looked back.

Brett McIntyre and Adam Dickson each scored a pair of goals and added four assists to lead Coquitlam’s attack, while Christian Del Bianco made 52 saves to earn the victory in net.

Mitch Jones had three goals and a pair of assists to lead all Salmonbellies’ scorers. Keeper Zach Higgins stopped 39 of the 51 shots he faced in New Westminster’s net.

The Adanacs head to Victoria for a showdown with the Shamrocks on Saturday.
