Coyote advice is not sufficient

Re: City offers advice on dealing with coyotes, The Record, Sept. 2

I just wanted to add a comment to your article, with respect to the coyote situation in our community.

I live on Queens Avenue, across from the park, and for several weeks was awakened pretty much every night from the "yipping" of the coyotes across the street.

It's heart wrenching to know that they have taken another one of our beloved pets, as well as any other form of wildlife that calls the park home.

Over time, we as human beings, have encroached on their territory, leaving them nowhere to go, and unfortunately, our pets become a sustenance for their survival.

I don't get a clear sense, from this article, that the "powers above" are taking this situation seriously. I personally lost my beautiful 12-year-old cat to two coyotes at eight in the morning on my neighbours' lawn.

So, telling me to keep my cats in at night doesn't seem to cut it.

What will it take before action is taken? I fear to think about that. We need to be accountable to everyone involved, coyotes and pets alike, and find a humane solution to what I see as an ever-growing problem.
