Dear Editor:
Re: City nixes full-motion digital sign at The Plaza, The Record, Dec. 5.
I find it very odd that New Westminster city council has declined to approve a new digital sign at the Plaza 88 development.
Both of the resident associations that would be impacted approved of the measure and businesses in Plaza 88 would benefit.
The large sign could greatly help the business owners in the plaza with some additional recognition and advertising.
I would think after committing to $56 million in debt to build the new civic centre that council would want to attract and increase traffic to the area, this would surely increase the opportunities to lease out the new civic centre space.
This council approved variances for the new Elizabeth Fry development against neighbourhood opposition, but now with neighbourhoods and businesses on side, the council declines variances. Odd.
