Letter: A hotel on New West's most 'messy' block? Bad plan

"Surely there's a better, less congested spot."

This corner of Eighth and Carnarvon streets in downtown New West is a bad location for a hotel, this writer says.

Editor:

A new hotel in New Westminster? Great. But on Carnarvon? Must be an April Fool's joke.

This is the most crazy, messy one block in the city:

  • cars coming out of four parkades and buses out of a bus station, as well as cars from the McInnes Overpass;
  • three signal lights and five crosswalks;
  • pedestrians going to the shops or the SkyTrain station;
  • two of the crosswalks attached to a roundabout and one on a blind corner that's a bus route turning from Columbia Street.

It all makes a serious accident just waiting to happen. Surely there's a better, less congested spot.
