Letter: 'Censorship' of police information would be 'Orwellian'

The Editor:

New Westminster used to have Block Watch; it faded and is now gone.

New Westminster police used to have regular meetings with representatives from each residents' association; there has not been a meeting for a long time.

I have never heard a complaint about too much information from the police but complaints about lack of information.

It is not possible to predict what people will be upset about, but censorship would be Orwellian. Some people get upset at what happens at council meetings. Perhaps each meeting could be preceded by a "trigger warning."

In Brave New World, citizens consumed Soma. Is that where we are going? Self-censorship if you wish, but not censorship of others.
