After four years living in Canada, I can not let go the fact that schools in this district did not celebrate Canada Day! While they spent a whole month celebrating a flag that excludes the majority of the school population, they did not mention the national flag that represents all.
It has been a while since I noticed that kids do not know the national anthem of Canada! After four years in Canada, I can say that my children do not know the words! How will kids learn to love this country and be proud to be Canadians?
I can guarantee they know how to sing the anthem and are proud to be from our home country.
Please school board tell me, as a recent immigrant, will I have to do teach that, too? For how long will we live in Canada in bubbles of different nationalities and ideologies? When will we become a real nation and be proud to be all Canadians? Under the national flag?
