I would like to draw attention to a poll conducted by the Record on the issue of dropping the “Royal City” moniker from New Westminster.
The majority of residents in New Westminster are not in favour of this.
Why does council seem intent on making this change notwithstanding these results? I do not understand why the city council wants to lose this identification. I am very proud to be from New Westminster, the Royal City. My Dad grew up here on Keary Street, and he always loved New Westminster. Why would we not want to celebrate this history and our beautiful city?
For those who are concerned about things that have been done in the past that were wrong — I share your concern. But I don’t see how this change will help any of that. Instead, let’s work to make New Westminster a great and welcoming place to live for all who wish to live here in harmony with others.
