Letter: MLA candidate expenses 'extremely interesting'

New Westminster resident writes it's "very clear" which party can get the most out of a dollar.

Dear Editor,

Thank you for publishing the candidate’s expense totals from the provincial election. I found this extremely interesting.

For example, in New Westminster-Coquitlam, the NDP outspent the combined opposition by about four and a half times. Please keep in mind this was an experienced (and IMHO very capable) incumbent, hardly an unknown neophyte.

Need we ask who the “moneybags” party was in the last election?

Also of interest; the NDP spent (according to the numbers you published) $50,506 to achieve 12,757 votes. This works out to $3.96 per vote. The equivalent numbers for the Greens and Conservatives are $1.40 and $0.87, respectively. Very clear which party can get the most out of a dollar, something to consider when the provincial tax bills come due, or the next election.

In the interests of full disclosure, I worked with the Conservative candidate in the last election.
