- Dear Editor,
Thank you for publishing the candidate’s expense totals from the provincial election. I found this extremely interesting.- For example, in New Westminster-Coquitlam, the NDP outspent the combined opposition by about four and a half times. Please keep in mind this was an experienced (and IMHO very capable) incumbent, hardly an unknown neophyte.
- Need we ask who the “moneybags” party was in the last election?
- Also of interest; the NDP spent (according to the numbers you published) $50,506 to achieve 12,757 votes. This works out to $3.96 per vote. The equivalent numbers for the Greens and Conservatives are $1.40 and $0.87, respectively. Very clear which party can get the most out of a dollar, something to consider when the provincial tax bills come due, or the next election.
- In the interests of full disclosure, I worked with the Conservative candidate in the last election.
