Taxpayers should protest rate hike unless it goes toward stopping downtown’s downward slide, reader says.

Re: Letter: Crime, danger on the rise in New Westminster

Excellent letter from Bruce Basttistoni regarding violent crime and the deterioration of downtown New Westminster, thanks to inept and/or nonexistent policies on the part of local politicians to clean it up!

And at the same time, I see the City of New Westminster is looking for a staggering 5.4 per cent or 6.4 per cent tax hike on New Westminster residents for 2023.

Unless most of that tax increase is for more police officers and less mollycoddling of addicts and violent criminals, all citizens of New Westminster need to write to the mayor and city council to tell them exactly what we think about this enormous tax increase!!
