Letter: New West needs to make sure parklet isn't a 'filthy eyesore'

Is the plan to make the Belmont parklet a family-friendly public space working?

The Belmont parklet in uptown New Westminster — seen here on Monday, May 8 — is undergoing a refresh.

Editor:

What is the point of updating the Belmont parklet if the city isn't able to do simple things like keep the area clean? Is it not possible to hose it down on a regular basis?

The attempt at making a sunny family space to enjoy is a joke. The city created a dream hangout for the questionable and their shopping carts. The area is a littered, filthy eyesore. These intended improvements will only make it a larger filthy eyesore unless the city takes responsibility to keep it regularly maintained.

Perhaps the police could do due diligence and walk through every so often to encourage the camped-out to move along.
