Editor:
My family lived in New West for more than 36 years before we moved to Aldergrove, but I still keep up with your issues.
A recent story reminds me of a fellow in Port Alberni who, in 1998, called himself “Warren Betanko” and wrote letters to the editor of his local paper criticizing NDP politicians. When it was discovered that “Warren” was, in reality, Liberal MLA Paul Reitsma, he resigned his seat.
There was no whining about how much stress he was experiencing or that he was struggling with mental health issues. He simply quit.
Politicians twenty-five years ago, apparently even those who screwed up, had the integrity to take responsibility for their own bad actions. Dee Beattie should take a page out of Paul Reitsma’s book and do the right thing — resign.
