Re: Traffic should be banned in some parts of uptown New West, Record Letters

While I understand the viewpoint of the writer who has suggested that changes be made to uptown traffic, I do have issues with the writer’s suggestion that traffic be rerouted onto Princess Street.

Princess Street is a residential street that has three rather large condo buildings on it. Out of those three, two have all of their owner’s vehicles use Princess Street as their access point.

In the future, another building that will be built on Sixth Street will also use Princess Street for its residents’ vehicle access.

Additionally, there is already too much traffic on the street from the large number of vehicles, including many very large commercial vehicles, due to the large volumes of people using it as an access point when driving to the mall. As well, there are far too many drivers who use Princess Street as a short cut to and from Sixth Street and Eighth Street.

Instead of proposing more traffic on Princess Street to make people’s experience on Sixth Avenue and Sixth Street more pleasant, I would suggest and appreciate people voicing their support for the hundreds of people, many of whom are seniors, who live on Princess Street and who are already suffering from the noise, pollution, and dangers of having so many vehicles, many who drive far too fast, on this residential street during all hours of the day and night.

The residents of Princess Street deserve not only the help of the community with this worsening situation, but even more so, the help of our elected politicians who could actually demonstrate that they care about the residents through actions that would improve the situation rather than exacerbate it.
