It's disheartening to see homeowners of this fine city whining about rising property taxes; one Record letter writer suggested cutting back both civic services and pay for civic workers.
Anyone who can afford a home needs to pay their fair share for the benefit of everyone. Punishing the workers and depriving the city of services so these lucky few can save a few dollars in tax is selfish. It also goes against the unique community spirit that binds together New Westminster, a city not just for the privileged but for the renters, the disabled, the poor – for all of us.
