Letters: Metro Vancouver 'snow summit' would be a waste of time

"We don't need a summit to determine the obvious."

A Nov. 29 snowstorm brought traffic to a standstill in New Westminster and around Metro Vancouver, but this letter writer says a "snow summit" wouldn't make any difference.

Editor:

A "snow summit" is a complete waste of time and energy. We don’t need a summit to determine the obvious. Most Lower Mainland drivers do not have the skills to drive in the snow; most don’t have snow tires, including delivery trucks; semi truck drivers didn’t put their chains on; and even our buses are not equipped.

Drivers did not heed the warning and leave their vehicles at home. Finally, most drivers are not accustomed to these extreme conditions.

The solution is to address the aforementioned problems that created gridlock with enforcement.
