Reader comment: New Westies' thoughts about bike lanes, wasted energy, city hall and more

Kudos and kvetches from New West Record readers.
your opinion matters
The cycling lane on East Sixth Avenue and the uptown parklet are among the issues on New West Record readers' minds.

Cycling lane helps New West wheelchair users

The cycling lane on Sixth Avenue near the curling rink/pool is appreciated and a safety improvement. I use a wheelchair there and appreciate being away from the traffic.

Wasted energy is a big concern

I am concerned about the wasted energy that results from lights left on when motion-activated lights would serve to allow safe passage in halls and on stairs. What is worse are lights left on day and night for no purpose.

Uptown parklet should just be taken out

Remove this (the Belmont parklet) altogether; it’s nothing but an eyesore. New Westminster in all needs a big makeover and more venues. New West is nothing but a drive-through city to somewhere else.

If this is to be upgraded, have police around walking the beat at times.

City hall holds 'ridiculous powers' over homeowners

Simply put, New West city hall is run by clowns and morons! They super-impose their will over homeowners when it comes to anything for renovation, dangerous tree removal, etc. The Belmont Street (parklet) is an absolute joke and waste of taxpayers' money.

I am more than happy to have sold my house for the high $2 million range. City hall holds ridiculous powers over the highest-paying tax bracket, just continuously wasting monies on failed projects with no repercussions.
