Solution needed on train noise issue

Dear Editor:

I was wondering why we get stuck here in B.C. with all the crap. The U.S.A. brings their stinking, noisy trains here, smoking howling, worn-out engines, shaking and vibrating junk. Now they want to bring their cancer-causing coal here, never mind diesel emissions, especially from trains.

We live 125 feet from the tracks, not by choice, as do other people on River Drive in New Westminster.

It's amazing, CNR and CPR trains emit smoke from their trains, unlike B.C. Southern Rail.

It's too bad everybody working on the railroad, most are considerate, except for two or three engineers who blast and ring all night - nothing to do with safety, deliberate. They say "because it's the law" - we live on a dead end street.

Also, how do they plan on stopping when they start blasting all hours of the night within 150 or 200 feet from the intersection?

During the day there's barely bell or woo-woo whistle to be heard.

After 10 years of "pass the buck," hopefully there will be some kind of a resolve.
