Truck traffic a key New West issue

Dear Editor:

I attended a recent open house evening at city hall with great interest. Truck traffic (and traffic in general) is an issue that affects every member of our community. I had a chance to talk to old friends and acquaintances, as well as truckers and business owners, several who have been living or operating here for almost 30 years. It was a great discussion and had some heated moments when discussing the issues, but we definitely need to have an integrated and comprehensive plan for dealing with this issue.

I believe we need alternate solutions to simply closing down roads and lanes to trucks. Traffic can often act like water (finding any possible route if any other route closes down), so we need to have a very detailed plan that will move the traffic safely and smoothly through (or around) our city but not affect commerce, business and personal way-of-life.
