New West residents are getting a short reprieve from extreme heat and bad air, but temperatures are expected to climb again by the end of the week.

New Westminster residents are getting a brief reprieve from the heat, as the week starts with cooler temperatures and better air than last week.

It's sitting at just 16 C in New West right now (as of about 8:30 a.m. Monday, July 10), with a projected high of 22 C today, according to the Weather Network.

Today's partly cloudy weather continues into tomorrow, with a mix of sun and clouds and a high of 23 C (feels like 25 C) predicted for Tuesday. Similar temperatures, and cloudy skies with sunny breaks, are also expected Wednesday.

On Thursday, the upward trend begins, with a predicted high of 24 C that feels like 27 C, creeping up to 26 C (feels like 29 C) on Friday. By Saturday, we could be back to basking in 27 C temperatures that feel like 30 C once again.

After last week's air quality advisory, the air is once again in good shape; Metro Vancouver's Air Map shows New West currently sitting at a health index of 2, or low risk.
