Election dates to remember in New West

With September just around the corener, election action will soon kick into high gear. New Westminster will residents will have a few chances to check out local candidates in action come fall.

It's down to the finish line for candidates vying for your vote in New Westminster-Burnaby for the Oct. 21 federal election.

With September just around the corener, election action will soon kick into high gear. New Westminster will residents will have a few chances to check out local candidates in action come fall.

Here are some of the dates to keep in mind:

* Tuesday, Oct 2: Glenbrooke North and Moody Park residents’ associations are joining forces to host a joint mayoral and council all-candidates meeting at 7 p.m. the New Westminster Evangelical Free Church, just across the border at 7895 Canada Way, Burnaby (corner of Canada Way and 10th Avenue.)

* Wednesday, Oct. 3: The New Westminster Chamber of Commerce is holding an all-candidates meeting for school board, city council and mayor from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Justice Institute theatre. It will focus on issues affecting the business community. Register at www.newwestchamber.com/events.

* Friday, Oct. 5: PopLuck New West, with help from Yes in New West, is holding an Eat and Greet with the mayor and council candidates from 7 to 9 p.m. at River Market. Attendees are invited to bring some food to share, hear 30-second speeches from the candidates and chat about the issue of housing. More details on the Yes In New West Facebook page.
