Folks kicked their heels up at this year’s Pride Hoedown at Century House.
The Century House Seniors Gay Straight Alliance hosted the annual Pride Hoedown on Wednesday afternoon. Offered in collaboration with New West Pride, the popular event gave participants a chance to hear some live music and join in on some line dancing fun.
No line dancing experience was required for the Pride Hoedown, as instructors and callers helped guide dancers through the steps.
Other Pride Week events taking place on Aug. 16 included a New West Pride Poetry in the Park (6:30 to 8:30 p.m. in the Queen’s Park bandshell), a Rainbow lunch and brunch at Begbies, Music by the River – Pride edition (6 to 8 p.m. at Westminster Pier Park), And Pride trivia night (7 to 9 p.m. at Georgie’s Local Kitchen and Bar).
The Pride Hoedown is just one of the many events taking place in New Westminster during Pride Week, which runs from Aug. 10 to 20. Upcoming events include Queer coffee chats, the opening of a Queer Gallery, Pie for Pride (at the New West Farmers Market), drag queen storytime, the New West Pride Film Fest, patio and DJ dance parties, and more.
New West Pride’s 2023 Columbia Street Festival takes place on Saturday, Aug. 19 from 3 to 8 p.m. It includes live entertainment on two stages, roving performers, street activations, vendors and food offerings.
