New Westminster families are invited to turn out at Queen’s Park next weekend for a special art exhibition and community day.
The On the Spectrum event is set for Sunday, Nov. 3 from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Gallery at Queen’s Park in Centennial Lodge.
It includes an art show by children with autism spectrum disorder, as well as a number of other activities for families – including a performance of Baba Yaga and the Black Flower by Vancouver Puppet Theatre, plus kids’ activities, face painting, prize draws and a silent auction of paintings by local artists.
The event is hosted by Rusart Arts and Culture, which runs a program for autistic children.
“Annually, we have art shows for kids on the spectrum, which help them to develop self-confidence, meet new friends and share their vision of life with others,” says a write-up about the group. “Our mission is to increase awareness about neuro-diversity and help people with autism to get understood, respected, heard and cared for.”
Everyone is welcome to the free Sunday afternoon event. For more information, see spectrum.rusart.ca or check out www.facebook.com/on.the.spectrum.rusart.
