New West shoppers may soon be able to find some deals at Columbia Square Plaza.
Big Box Outlet Store, which sells brand name products at discounted prices, is expected to soon open in Columbia Square. Employees are currently hard at work stocking shelves and racks with clothing, shoes, small appliances, bedding, seasonal items and more.
Jordan Clarke, head of purchasing, logistics and marketing, said the company is targeting to open the New West store early next week.
“We were excited to find a location in New West that would work for us,” he said. “It has been on our radar for a while, but we have been waiting for a location that would be the right fit, and we think we found a good one.”
In March, a Ronsons Shoes liquidation store opened a temporary shop in Columbia Square Plaza. Big Box Outlet Store has now leased that space.
“We are hoping for this to be a long-term location for us,” Clarke said on Aug. 15. “I am not sure what the landlord has planned for the space, but our intention is to be there for the long term. There is a redevelopment planned for this area, but we hope to stay in the market.”
In June, New Westminster city council received an introductory report from staff about a rezoning application for the shopping plaza at 88 10th St. The site, which would be redeveloped in phases, could include a variety of housing opportunities (accommodating several thousand new residents), office and retail uses, as well as community and public space.
Big Box Outlet Store in Columbia Square Plaza will be open Monday to Friday from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., Saturday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Launched in 1985 as MTF Discount in Surrey, Big Box Outlet Store has since opened a number of locations in B.C. It is continuing to expand in British Columbia and to open stores in Alberta.
The company’s vision is to provide customers with access to high-quality, brand-name products – including clothing, kitchen appliances, toys, health and beauty products, bedding and linens – at affordable prices.
