A trip down memory lane at Moody Park Arena, a book launch, and a yummy perogy dinner are among the offerings this weekend in New West. We couldn’t wait for the weekend, so we’re starting it a day early.

Thursday, March 27

An Evening of Magic

Start the weekend early at An Evening of Magic featuring a diverse lineup of magicians, part of this year’s Magic Festival. The March 27 show features illusions, mind-bending tricks, and captivating performances. (The Magic Festival runs March 24 to 30 at various venues in New West.)

New West Farmers Market

Buy Canadian-made products at the New West Farmers Market’s block party, which is celebrating the opening of its 16th season. The kickoff event includes 50+ vendors, live entertainment, children’s activities, giveaways and more.

Friday, March 28

Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers Tribute

Rock out to The Wildflowers, who bring their Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers tribute to town. This internationally touring band will perform classics like Free Fallin’ and I Won’t Back Down.

March Cocktail Friday

Kick off your weekend by joining community members for cocktails in the Craft Café’s Back Room Lounge. You’ll be able to purchase cocktails in the café’s relaxing lounge area.

Moody Park Arena 50th anniversary celebration

Take a trip down memory lane and celebrate Moody Park Arena’s 50th anniversary. At today’s celebration you can walk on the ice between 3:30 and 5 p.m. (no skating during this time) to write your Moody Park Arena memories on the ice. The celebration event includes cake, a photo booth, a prize draw, and more. A family skate takes place from 6:30 to 8 p.m.

  • When: Saturday, March 29, 3:30 to 5 p.m. – anniversary celebration/no skating; and 6:30 to 8 p.m. – skate on the written memories at the family skate.
  • Where: Moody Park Arena, 701 Eighth Ave.
  • Details: It’s free from 3:30 to 5 p.m. but regular admission fees apply to the public skate from 6:30 to 8 p.m.

Perogies for Peace

Enjoy a tasty meal at this month’s Perogies for Peace traditional Ukrainian fundraising dinner. The menu includes perogies, cabbage rolls, borscht, and sausage; fresh and frozen options are available.

Sphero Free Play

Believe Me book launch

At today’s Royal City Literary Arts Society’s Tellers of Short Tales event, you’ll have a chance to meet and chat with the author and one of the interviewees, get your book signed, and enjoy light refreshments.

Bully’s Studios
