A 14-hour concrete pour is coming as part of the ongoing work on the Pattullo Bridge replacement project.

Dozens of concrete trucks will be heading to New West for a “continuous concrete pour” that’s part of the Pattullo Bridge replacement project.

Starting at approximately 8 p.m. on Thursday, July 18, Fraser Crossing Partners will be performing an overnight concrete pour near the New Westminster shoreline. The concrete pour will continue into Friday morning.

In a statement to the Record, the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure said approximately 63 trucks will deliver around 500 cubic metres of concrete for this work.

“This overnight pour is the last concrete pour required for the pier cap – the large concrete structure that supports the girders – of the final bridge foundation for the main bridge span,” said the statement.

According to the ministry, concrete deliveries are expected in New West from approximately 9 p.m. on Thursday to 11 a.m. on Friday, as the pour should take approximately 14 hours.

“This pour must be completed at night when temperatures are lower, and it is important for the pour to be continuous to ensure structural integrity,” said a notice about the work.

The notice from the project team said nearby residents may hear noise from concrete trucks and heavy equipment while this work is underway.

“Concrete trucks will access the foundation throughout the duration of the pour using the temporary access platform from the New Westminster shoreline south of Front Street,” said the notice. “To access the work area, concrete trucks will be using Royal Avenue, Columbia Street, and Front Street.
