More than a million B.C. residents cast their ballots in advance voting.

Almost 24 per cent of voters in Richmond's four ridings cast ballots in the provincial election advance polls, about 14,000 more than in the 2020 election.

This is slightly lower than the 28 per cent overall of B.C. voters who went to the advance polls this election.

A total of 33,829 voters cast a ballot in these four Richmond ridings between Oct. 10 and Oct. 16 in advance of general voting day on Oct. 19.

In the 2020 election, 19,930 voters, or 13.4 per cent of registered voters, cast their ballots in advance polls.

The highest percentage of advance voters were in Richmond-Steveston, where 28.1 per cent cast an early ballot - a total of 10,840 voters.

In Richmond-Bridgeport, 6,787 residents, or 19.5 per cent of registered voters, voted by the end of Oct. 16. This number was 8,270, or 25.3 per cent, in Richmond Centre.

In Richmond-Queensborough, 7,932 votes were recorded in advance polls, which represents 21.4 per cent of registered voters.

According to Elections BC, 1,001,331 residents have already cast their ballots across the province, representing more than 28 per cent of all registered voters.

This breaks the record set during the pandemic election of 2020 when 670,000 people, or 19 per cent of registered voters, cast an early ballot.

General voting day is on Oct. 19 – advance voting is now closed.

Specific information on voting hours and location varies per resident, and can be found on voting cards sent by mail.

As of Oct. 7, there were 142,837 registered voters in the four ridings, according to Elections BC advance voting results.

Unregistered voters can register on voting day. Voters must be Canadian citizens, 18 or older, and a resident of B.C. since April 18, 2024 – ID must be presented at the time of voting.
