Friday, June 14

Secret Balboa Club

Practise your dance moves at the Secret Balboa Club’s social dance, when dancers will test out the dance studio in the newly opened təməsew̓txʷ Aquatic and Community Centre. Balboa, a type of swing dance that originated in Southern California, was popular in the 1930s and 1940s.

  • When: Friday, June 14, 7:45 to 9:45 p.m.
  • Where: təməsew̓txʷ Aquatic and Community Centre, 65 East Sixth Ave. It’s taking place in room Fitness 2C, which is located on the second floor.

Vancouver Battlezone 2024

Marvel at the moves at Vancouver Battlezone 2024, an event that organizers say will bring “one of Canada’s most anticipated dance battles” to New West. Running Friday through Sunday, Vancouver Battlezone includes competitions in popping, hip hop and open styles (preliminaries on Friday and finals on Saturday), and workshops (Sunday) feature hip hop, popping, locking and a Q&A.

Saturday June 15

Uptown Swing Collective

Grab your picnic blanket and dinner (if you choose) and join the Uptown Swing Collective for live jazz by the Daniel Marmer Quintet and dancing in the park. You don’t need a partner or dance experience to join in on the fun; everyone is welcome.

  • When: Saturday, June 15, 4 to 6 p.m.
  • Where: Moody Park’s south field – behind Century House, 620 Eighth St.
  • Details: Live music from 4 to 6 p.m.; beginner swing dance lesson during the band’s break (around 4:45 p.m.)

Queensborough Children’s Festival

Enjoy an afternoon of free and fun activities and entertainment at the annual Queensborough Children's Festival, hosted by the Queensborough Special Programs Committee. Along with great lineup of live entertainment, the day’s fun includes: a circus tent; arts and crafts; gardening; and a bubbles station. There will also be booths from local community groups, a food and toddler section, food to purchase – and much more.

Glenbrooke North Garage Sale

Hunt for treasures at Glenbrooke North's neighbourhood-wide garage sale. Directional arrow signs will be erected on Saturday morning to guide treasure hunters to garage sale locations.
