Craft sales, charity fundraisers and assorted arts and community events mean there is no reason to be bored in New West this weekend.
Massey Theatre is hosting workshops, live performances, and family activities as part of its four-day Performing Arts and Technology Festival – and that’s just the start of weekend fun in New West. The Record has rounded up some local events you may want to check out this weekend.

Performing Arts and Technology Festival
Immerse yourself in four days of fun arts and technology offerings at the Massey Theatre’s first-ever Performing Arts and Technology Festival. The four-day festival includes live entertainment (the only BC show of Kid Koala’s Nufonia Must Fall, an Ouro Collective dance performance, and a Battlezone Canada Street Dance Battle), workshops (an animation workshop for kids, writing music for film, and hip hop and popping workshops), and activities including a Robot Dance Party and an all-ages board game event with Kid Koala.

Friday, Nov. 15
Group of Five fundraiser
Celebrate the Group of Five’s 20th anniversary of raising funds for equipment at Royal Columbian Hospital at the Nov. 15 fundraiser, which includes nibblies (including birthday cake), a silent auction, raffles, and a chance to mingle and chat with community members.

Royal City Gogos Artisan Craft Sale
Shop at the Royal City Gogos’ Artisan Craft Sale where you’ll find all sort of items for yourself and for gift giving. Locally crafted artisan crafts, food, vintage collectibles, thrift accessories, and more will be available at this popular annual sale. All proceeds go to the Stephen Lewis Foundation’s Grandmothers to Grandmothers campaign, which supports African grandmothers who are caring for children orphaned by AIDS.

PechaKucha Night After Dark
Get inspired at PechaKucha New West Volume 34, where 10 speakers will present 20 slides for 20 seconds each – offering a glimpse into their passions.

Wings Vocal Collective
Listen to a mix of contemporary and choral music when the Wings Vocal Collective presents Alumina, a 10-year anniversary concert.

Thornbridge Crafters Christmas craft sale
Check out the wide variety of knitted, crocheted, sewn, painted, cross stitched, and other items for children, adults, and pets that will be available at the Thornbridge Crafters Christmas craft sale. The event also includes a raffle with assorted prizes. All proceeds to the food bank.

Artist talk
Attend an interactive public talk with artist Jay Freemantle, who will focus on how his work has been a part of his mental wellness journey. He will also answer questions about the work and his process. Freemantle’s show, Pinned & Wriggling, runs until Nov. 24 at the Gallery at Queen's Park.

Stinging Nettles: Food and Medicine
Learn about many facets of stinging nettles – including their uses, how to plant seeds and make nettle and mint tea – at a workshop with Musqueam educator Kymberlee Stogan. Attendees at the Stinging Nettles: Food and Medicine will sample nettle tea and take home a nettle salve.

Pinoy Krismas Tiangge
Get into the holiday spirit a the Pinoy Krismas Tiangge event being hosted by the Inarte Society and Macrisa Caragn. The – a Lights and Lantern Festival includes a Christmas bazaar and an opportunity to make lanterns and candles.
