Take a closer look at École Fraser River Middle School.
The new school is slated to open in September 2015 and will house students in grades 6 to 8 from the west side of the city, including Connaught Heights, Lord Tweedsmuir, Lord Kelvin and Qayqayt Elementary schools.
The company building a $17.6-million middle school, Yellowridge Construction, presented the site design at a recent school board meeting.
The district is working on three new schools for the city - an elementary school on the former St. Mary's Hospital site, which opens in September; the middle school at the John Robson elementary site, and a replacement high school. A project agreement between the district and the Ministry of Education has yet to be signed to replace the high school, but the middle school is moving forward with construction starting this week.
Plans for the middle school include separate drama and music rooms, a double gym and open areas for students to gather.
Yellowridge is also constructing a separate building on the site for the school board headquarters.
