The BC Green Party has revealed its candidate in New Westminster-Coquitlam.
Today, Aug. 22, the party unveiled Maureen Curran had won the nomination for the riding.
"I am excited to introduce this inspiring group of candidates who are ready to tackle the most urgent challenges facing our province," party leader Sonia Furstenau said in the announcement's release.
"British Columbians are demanding real solutions to issues like housing affordability, environmental protection, and social justice.
"These candidates have the vision, experience, and dedication to bring about the change our communities desperately need. They represent the best of our province, and I am confident they will be strong advocates for the values that unite us".
Curran is an experienced educator and environmental activist with a strong background in science. Her campaign, according to her profile, is centred on environmental stewardship and prioritizing the needs of families and communities.
"Our growing team of Green candidates represent the future of British Columbia,” the BC Greens' statement added.
“A future where our communities are stronger, our environment is protected, and our government works for everyone. I am thrilled to work alongside them as we build a better B.C. together."
Curran previously ran for the Green Party of Canada in the riding of Burnaby South during the 2021 federal election.
She finished fifth out of six candidates, receiving 1,185 votes and 2.89 per cent of the vote.
BC NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh received 16,382 votes, which equated to 40.34 per cent of the vote to secure a third term representing Burnaby South.
