If it's time for a screening mammogram again, take note: B.C. Cancer's mobile clinic is coming to Queen's Park in New Westminster in January.

If you’re a New Westminster woman of mammogram age, take note: The B.C. screening mammography program is rolling into town next week.

B.C Cancer’s mobile screening mammography van will be setting up shop in Queen’s Park, outside the arena, from Jan. 12 to 28.

Screening mammograms are available for B.C. women aged 40 and older:

  • If you’re aged 40 to 74 with a first-degree relative (mother, daughter, sister) with breast cancer, it’s recommended that you get a mammogram every year.
  • If you’re aged 40 to 49 with no family history of breast cancer, you’re encouraged to talk to your doctor about the benefits and limitations of mammography. If you choose screening mammography, it’s available every two years.
  • If you’re aged 50 to 74 with no family history of breast cancer, it’s recommended that you get a mammogram every two years.
  • If you’re aged 75+, talk to your doctor; if screening mammography is chosen, it’s available every two to three years.
  • If you’re at high risk of breast cancer and between the ages of 30 and 74, screening mammograms are recommended every year. Check out the B.C Cancer website for the full list of who’s considered to be high risk.

To make an appointment with the mobile clinic, call 1-800-663-9203.

If you miss the January appointments, you’ll also be able to visit the van again in March: the B.C. Cancer mobile screening mammography program returns to Queen’s Park March 9 to 18 and March 25.

Permanent, year-round clinics are also available nearby in Burnaby, Port Coquitlam and Surrey. Check out the full list of B.C. cancer screening mammography clinics.
