Daniel Kofi Ampong has been tapped as the BC United candidate for a newly-formed riding that represents Burnaby and New Westminster in the upcoming 2024 provincial election — set for Oct. 19.
The local business owner and father of two was revealed as the party's candidate earlier this month, and believes his history of advocacy can be an asset to his campaign.
"My love for our community runs deep," Ampong said in a statement, "and I am committed to translating my passion and energy into tangible results for our residents."
Ampong has called New Westminster home since 1994 when his family settled in Metro Vancouver from Ghana.
His résumé, according to his profile, includes working with the Ghana Association of BC, coaching soccer teams at New Westminster Secondary and advocating through various sectors for affordable housing.
BC United leader Kevin Falcon claims Ampong can bring a "wealth of experience and dedication" to his party.

Burnaby-New Westminster became a new riding for 2024 as part of an approval to restructure and add six more seats in the B.C. Legislature, bringing the total number of MLAs to 93.
The electoral district was a combination of New West with portions of Burnaby-Edmonds.
Jennifer Whiteside has served as the New Westminster MLA since the 2020 snap-election; Burnaby-Edmonds MLA Raj Chouhan since 2005.
