Re: Letter: The new generation needs to respect tax paid public services (Dec. 22, 2024)
About students not tapping their cards, I just wanted to make the writer aware that university students have U-Passes that are included with their tuition.
So they might be lackadaisical about the tap in, but they are not avoiding payment.
Also, rapid buses are designed to have riders enter from the back and they can tap in at any door. It makes flow in and off the longer bus work much more smoothly.
I also ride transit a lot and am very appreciative of our bus drivers.
They’re often so kind to those who are struggling to make the fare or who aren’t sure where they are going.
And since I ride routes with students, I’m impressed with how many of them will say "thank you" as they exit and will offer to give up their seat (although sometimes they need to be reminded to look up from phones in order to see the person that needs it).
