Summer is still in the air but Family Services of Greater Vancouver is hard at work on plans for fall programming for local families.
The non-profit will once again be offering a variety of free community programs starting in September. Here’s a look at what’s being offered:
* Creative Explorations. Children 18 months to six years can explore their creativity through arts and crafts, songs and stories with their caregiver’s participation. Six sessions are taking place on Mondays from Sept. 19 to Oct. 31 from 9:30 a.m. to noon at Olivet Church, 613 Queens Ave. Bus tickets are available if needed.
* Parents Connect, a program for parents of children aged zero to six years, gives parents a chance to meet and connect with other parents and to participate in guided discussions. Six sessions run on Fridays from Sept. 16 to Oct. 28 from 9:30 a.m. to noon at Olivet Church.
* Moms Group is a support group for single parents who are raising children aged zero to six. It gives them an opportunity to learn about community resources and to connect with other moms about the ups and downs of solo parenting. Six sessions are running on Wednesdays from Sept. 21 to Oct. 26 from 4:30 to
6:30 p.m. at Olivet Church. Bus tickets and childminding are available if needed.
* Let’s Cook Together provides a place where parents can learn food skills and how to cook healthy recipes on a budget, while their children, aged zero to six years, play. Twelve sessions are being held on Wednesdays from Sept. 21 to Dec. 7 from 9:15 to 11:45 a.m. at Ecole Qayqayt Elementary, 85 Merivale St. Bus tickets and childminding are available if needed.
* Raising Exceptional Children is a support group for parents of neurodiverse children, giving them time to connect with other parents to share the challenges and joys of parenting exceptional children and to learn about community resources. This virtual Zoom program is held on the last Saturday of the month at 10 a.m.
