What if we told you you can learn a new dance style in New West this weekend?
One that’s packed with energy and will have you panting and sweating at the end of it.
On Sunday, July 30, you can learn the choreography of an upbeat Tamizh song at this two-hour dance workshop held at In Movement Dance Co. (802 Agnes St.) in New West.
Get ready to sweat, because Karthik Natarajan, a dance choreographer from Chennai, India, who has held several workshops in B.C., Toronto, U.S. and India, will be teaching you to groove to the catchy Tamizh song Naa Ready that’s loaded with energy and fun — and you might need a set of clothes to change into after.
The choreography will be a “Kollywood” style dance on the fast number, and it will be a true cardio workout, plus all the fun.
Remember Naatu Naatu? The fiery, high-energetic Indian language song took the internet and the world by a storm when it won the coveted Academy Award earlier this year. This weekend's fun will be similar to that, but not quite.
The workshop will be priced at $25 per person for the two-hour class, and Natarajan will take you through the steps one step at a time to allow you to have fun while learning something new.
Seasoned dancers can simply add another style to their repertoire if they’re trying “Kollywood” dance for the first time.
Two workshops will be held on Sunday — one at 2 p.m. and one at 6 p.m. Limited spots are available, so it is encouraged to register early to secure a spot. Text 437-425-9669 to register or to know more.
Make sure you carry plenty of water to the workshops; and carry a towel. To get a glimpse of the choreography and what you’ll be learning, you can see Natarajan’s Instagram page.
