There’s a special power in voices raised together in song.

Everyone is invited out to the Anvil Centre tonight (Tuesday, Dec. 18) to experience that power for themselves. The Anvil Centre’s Winter Celebrations kick off today with a 7 p.m. opening sing-along.

Representatives from a variety of local choirs, from children to adults, will be taking part, and everyone in the community is invited to stop in and sing along. Lyric sheets and music will be available for all.

Songs for the night include Coco Love Alcorn’s Tiny Lights, Leonard Cohen’s Hallelujah and This is Me from The Greatest Showman, plus Silent Night and Auld Lang Syne. (You can get a song list and links here.)

The a cappella quintet Quayside Voices will also offer up a performance.

“This event is about coming together in song with all ages, experiences, skill and ability singing together,” said an email about the event. “The beauty resides in the intentionality of the act of singing together, and activating and claiming space for art and community.”

Another highlight of opening night will be the reveal of the new luminary labyrinth that has been created by Omanie Elias.

The sing-along kicks off a packed schedule of events, demonstrations, activities and performances running until Dec. 29, with free offerings daily on the main floor and ticketed events in the third-floor theatre. See more here.
