Steven Galloway jumped to bestselling author with his book The Cellist of Sarajevo. Set during the Bosnian war, the stories of three people unfold against a backdrop of unpredictable bombing, sniping and a cellist playing a daily tribute to the fallen.

JJ Lee's The Measure of a Man, which was nominated for this year's Governor General's Literary Award, is part personal memoir, part history of the suit, and features his time at Modernize Tailors in Chinatown.

Donald Hauka's history books include McGowan's War, and his mysteries feature Mr. Jinnah whose first book inspired a TV movie. His most recent mystery is She Demons.

Arley McNeney's second book is The Time We All Went Marching, which brings alive the struggles of a young couple in the 40s and the On to Ottawa Trek of 1935.

Elizabeth Elwood's plays have been produced regularly by the Vagabond Players, and she is the puppeteer of the Elwoodettes Marionettes. Her mystery stories are set in the Lower Mainland and feature detective Bertram Beary and his artistic family.

New Westminster's poets laureate have also published books. Candice James, the current poet laureate, has published Inner Heart: A Journey. Poet laureate emeritus Don Benson's most recent books are New Westminster: 150 Years of Tradition and Simon Fraser: The Perilous Journey.
