Letter: Fossil fuels act 'as ridiculous as you can get'

This New Westminster resident calls a new federal ban on fossil fuel industry promotion "unnecessary."

Ottawa recently passed a bill that prohibits promotion of the fossil fuel industry.

The Editor:

With the passing of Bill 372 in the House of Commons, namely, "The Fossil Fuels Act, " Canadians have just received another blow to whatever freedom of speech we have left in this country.

This bill was put forward, by an NDP Member of Parliament, with the full support of the Liberal Party of Canada.

It prohibits anyone from promoting the fossil fuel industry, which employs thousands of Canadian workers, in any way, shape or form under threat of outrageous fines.

It's bad enough that Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has already outlawed certain types of speech that he doesn't approve of, but this Bill 372 is just about as ridiculous as you can get.

The NDP and their Liberal Party of Canada allies should be hanging their heads in shame for saddling Canadians with this draconian, and unneccesary piece of legislation.
