The Editor:
We have been hearing so many negative stories about our hospitals these days, but I learned first hand this is not always the case.
I was experiencing tightness in my chest and feeling unwell. Knowing my body and following my wife's advice, she took me to the Emergency Department at Royal Columbian.
With their dedicated first class doctors, nurses and all staff involved, it was discovered that I had a heart attack. I was admitted and received several stents the following day.
Without this diagnosis, I wouldn't be writing this letter of gratitude.
The entire staff who did the surgery made me feel so relaxed that I forgot I was having this serious surgery. It was as close to going to the other side imaginable.
After the surgery, I was sent to 2N of the Cardiac ward. I can't say enough great things about the care that I received from everyone involved in my recovery.
Life is too short; sometimes we are given a second chance, and it is entirely up to us what we do with it.
Words alone are not enough, but they are sincere.
From the bottom of my heart (now that I have a healthier one), thank you to all the staff at Royal Columbian for giving me a second chance.
