I'm shocked that anyone would state that public transit should be a user-pay system.

Firstly, riders do pay. An adult monthly bus pass from Surrey to Vancouver costs $193.80.

Secondly, many riders are lower wage workers who cannot afford a car and need to get to work.

Obviously, Gary has a car and I assume he could also afford to pay for other public services like medical and schools.

The conservative right wing advocates for low taxes because they can pay for the services they want.

I want to live in a society that shares and understands that not everyone has the advantages of those who advocate for user-pay systems.

And by the way, I have a car and choose to use public transit for the environment and improve the air for everyone.
