Letter: Quiet time in New West is valuable

Why this letter writer believes construction hours in downtown New Westminster should be mandated under certain hours.

Construction in downtown New Westminster should include mandated hours, one resident suggests, believing that "quiet time" is far too valuable.

The Editor:

Construction working hours in the downtown — can some explain why the Ellis-don project on Angus Street was shut down Friday, Aug. 30 at 10 a.m.?

Across the way the Hall project is working.

Could it be the extra two hours the EllisDon worked overtime or the extra Saturdays to give them the Friday off of the long weekends?

This has been a common thing on all the buildings.

There is a very short period of time with no construction noise from Saturday at 6 p.m. to SkyTrain work at midnight Sunday.

Quiet time is valuable.

The city can control this by mandating times, which is done in Vancouver.

We have lived at this same location for 16 years and have seen 17 buildings all built this way within two blocks each stacking hours different ways.

People who live here are the reason more want to come.

Remember the people who brought this prosperity not the all mighty dollar.
