Letter: TransLink an 'insatiable money pit,' New West resident claims

This letter writer believes the TransLink Mayor's Council can do better following the regional transit authority's "$600-million funding gap" warning.

Re: TransLink warns of huge public transport cuts unless '$600M funding gap' is addressed (July 25, 2024)

So, here we are again with the insatiable money pit, known as TransLink, knocking on our door!

Not so long ago, a large group of people from the Fraser Valley, who were not in favour of expanding TransLink any further, attended meetings with all the Mayors, and/or their proxies who were very much in favour of transit expansion throughout the region, no matter what the cost to taxpayers then, or in the future.

We put forward a simple plan of a user pay system, that would ensure taxpayers would not be on the hook for any future expansion of the TransLink system!

We won the argument, but lost the battle.

Now, here we are year after year subsidizing the insatiable TransLink monster, whether we use the system or not.

It is, in my opinion, sheer highway robbery, on the part of the province, and the Mayor's Council.
