Locally crafted goodies are about to hit the spotlight at Massey Theatre — or, more accurately, at its concession stand.
The New Westminster theatre, which plays host to Ballet Jörgen’s production of Cinderella this Saturday night, has announced it’s adding some local love to its concession lineup.
Patrons will discover more than just standard popcorn and candy offerings — much, much more. On the menu will be some delectable treats from local, independent businesses:
Trove Desserts
This sister-run, New Westminster-based enterprise has become popular with local foodies for all its fine baking, particularly its notable dessert boxes — including a recent decadent Valentine’s-themed box. At Massey, you’ll be able to enjoy a Trove Brownie and Blondie combo pack. (Find out more at Trove’s website or Instagram.)
YUM Gourmet Donuts
Yes, everyone in New West knows about this gourmet doughnut shop in Sapperton by now (have I mentioned their to-die-for maple doughnut breakfast sandwich in the last five minutes?). At Massey, you’ll be able to find their chocolate sprinkle and raspberry mini-doughnuts. (Find out more at YUM’s Facebook page or Instagram.)
MacShack Cookiery
This Port Moody-based enterprise has grown from a hobby to a business venture, and it’s found a niche creating custom cookies as opening- and closing-night gifts for musical productions in the Lower Mainland (fittingly, as owners Dave and Deb MacLean’s daughters, Julia and Jaime, are themselves musical theatre performers — Massey audiences saw the two starring in Royal City Musical Theatre’s Annie back in 2014). Expect some of MacShack’s custom, theatre-themed creations at Massey’s concession. (Find out more at MacShack’s website or Instagram.)
Bonus Bakery
This Vancouver bakery has drawn a following for its plant-based baked goodies, and theatregoers will get to try out the treats right here in New West. For the ethical eater in your party, the vegan cookies will be just the ticket. (Find out more at Bonus Bakery’s website or Instagram.)
