A New West man has been charged with second-degree murder after a woman was stabbed to death in the Queensborough neighbourhood on Friday, Oct. 13.

Balvir Singh, 57, was taken into custody and charged the next day, Oct. 14, in relation to the death of Kulwant Kaur — also of New Westminster.

In a release, the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) said it's identifying the 46-year-old victim as part of efforts with the ongoing investigation.

"This appears to be an isolated incident between family members," said IHIT spokesperson Sgt. Timothy Pierotti.

New West police (NWPD) received a "call to service" after 5 p.m. on Friday to the 200-block of Suzuki Street in the Queensborough neighbourhood.

First responders found Kaur suffering from life-threatening injuries, which she ultimately succumbed to despite efforts by BC Emergency Health Services (BCEHS) to revitalize her.

Singh was arrested at the scene, added Pierotti.

He said IHIT is continuing to work with the NWPD and BC Coroners Service, but the public's help is also sought to move the case forward.

Anyone with more information on the homicide is strongly encouraged to call IHIT at 1-877-551-4448 or email [email protected].
