The terrorist attacks in Sri Lanka has inspired one New Westminster resident to start a Gofundme campaign to raise $25,000.

Hareen Kaththotagewas born and raised in Sri Lanka, which he calls the “pearl of the Indian ocean for its natural beauty.”

“As a kid I experienced the 30 year old civil war,” Kaththotage writes on the Gofundme page.“Thousands of people were affected by the war and many children were left orphaned. The bombing which happened on the 21st of April (Easter Sunday) brought back the dark past we had, where over 360 people died and more than 500 people were injured. I was getting ready chopping wood to light up the fire for the Easter Vigil at St Patrick's Parish in Vancouver, when I got a notification on my phone. My heart skipped a few beats and this situation brought back the darker past we had.”
Kaththotage isdoing this fundraiser in order to “restore the lives of those who were orphaned, injured, disabled and to help the families who lost their loved once that day.”

He says the funds will go directly to the bishop in the Colombo archdiocese and he will be fully responsible in getting the funds to him.

“I will request for a detailed financial report from the bishop and my plan is to share it with the donors.”
