New West police are appealing for dash-cam footage after a driver ran away from a collision at Sixth and McBride.

The New Westminster Police Department is seeking the public’s assistance into an investigation about a collision at Sixth Avenue and McBride Boulevard on Sunday, Jan. 21.

According to police, the driver of one of the vehicles involved the incident ran away following a collision.

“Dash-cam footage from vehicles travelling in either direction through the intersection of Sixth Avenue and McBride Boulevard on Jan. 21 between 11:45 a.m. and 12:15 p.m. is of interest to investigators,” said a NWPD news release.

Anyone who believes they have dash-cam footage from that location and time is asked to call the police department at 604-525-5411 and reference file 24-1089.

Some residents expressed concern on social media that there had been a fatality.

In a statement to the Record, the NWPD said two vehicles were involved in the collision, which happened at approximately noon.

“Two people were transported to local hospital with injuries,” said NWPD spokesperson Sgt. Andrew Leaver. “McBride was closed to traffic for approximately two hours while officers collected evidence and spoke to witnesses. Sixth Avenue was kept open with alternating lanes of traffic.”
