New Westminster police are investigating after the driver of a vehicle hit a pedestrian at 20th Street and Eighth Avenue.

An investigation is underway after a pedestrian was struck by the driver of a vehicle on the west side of the New West.

The New Westminster Police Department is investigating an incident that occurred in the afternoon hours of Friday, Oct. 4 at the intersection of 20th Street and Eighth Avenue.

“BC Emergency Health Services paramedics are transporting the pedestrian to hospital,” said a NWPD news release. “The driver of the vehicle remains on scene. All the contributing factors of this incident are still under investigation.”

Police are asking motorists to find another route, as the intersection of 20th Street and Eighth Avenue is closed to traffic in all directions. (At 5:07 p.m., NWPD posted a comment on social media stating: Traffic is now flowing north/south on 20th Street. Traffic will remain blocked on 8th Ave to the west of 20th St, up to 22nd St.)
