A Surrey RCMP investigation led to the seizure of drugs from residences in New Westminster and Coquitlam.

In a news release, Surrey RCMP report its drug unit started an investigation in June 2023 into an alleged drug-trafficking network that allegedly supplied bulk amounts of illicit drugs to drug traffickers in several Greater Vancouver cities. That investigation led the officers to obtain search warrant for two properties, one in New Westminster and the other in Coquitlam.

The Surrey RCMP Drug Unit, with the assistance of Surrey RCMP Gang Enforcement Team, Surrey RCMP Property Crime Target Team and New Westminster Police Gang Unit, executed the search warrants on Aug. 22, 2023.

The first search warrant was executed in the 600 block of Eighth Street in New Westminster and second search warrant was executed in the 160 block of Lucas Court in Coquitlam.

According to Surrey RCMP, the investigators seized the following:

  • MDMA (ecstasy) - 23 kilograms
  • Cocaine - 500 grams
  • Methylphenidate (also knowns as Ritalin) - 92 tablets
  • Amphetamine - 60 tablets
  • Fentanyl - 244 grams
  • Fentanyl (Fentanyl/Flurofentanyl/Bromalazam/Xylazine/Caffeine)- 72 grams
  • Fentanyl tablets - 272 grams
  • Counterfeit Hydromorphone tablets Fentanyl (Fentanyl/Flurofentanyl/Bromalazam/Xylazine/Caffeine) - 63 tablets
  • Oxycodone - 156 tablets
  • Counterfeit Oxycodone - 27 tablets
  • Prescription Alprazolam - 32 tablets
  • Tadalafil (Cialis) - 21 tablets

In an email to the Record, Surrey RCMP confirmed that the drugs were seized in August 2023.

“The lab results take time, and the investigation was still ongoing,” said Cpl. Sarbjit K. Sangha, media relations officer for the Surrey RCMP.

To protect the integrity of the investigation, Sangha could not provide a breakdown of what drugs were seized at each of the two locations.

At the time of the searches, police arrested one person, who was then released pending further investigation.

“The suspect was arrested near the New Westminster residence,” Sangha said in an email to the Record.

In an Oct. 4, 2024 news release, Surrey RCMP said officers are preparing a report to Crown counsel for consideration of charges. The investigation is ongoing.

“Investigations such as this are often helped by information from concerned community members. We ask that public continue to be our eyes and ears to help disrupt drug trafficking operations in their neighbourhoods,” Sangha said in the news release. “We remain committed to targeting individuals who are involved in selling illicit drugs.”
