New Westminster police would like to hear from anyone who witnessed an alleged assault at the New Westminster SkyTrain station on Christmas Day.

Around 5 p.m. on Dec. 25, New West police responded to a report of an assault at the New Westminster SkyTrain station. New Westminster Police Department patrol officers determined that the assault had taken place on the main level of the station, in the mall area.

“The victim was transported to a local area hospital by BC Emergency Health Services in serious condition, however is expected to recover,” said a NWPD news release.

This incident is now being investigated by the police department’s Major Crime Unit.

According to police, the relationship between the suspect and victim is still being investigated, but “this incident is isolated and there is not believed to be any increased risk to the public.”

“We’re in the early stages of this investigation. Our detectives, alongside our Forensic Identification Unit, are working hard to determine what happened,” NWPD spokesperson Sgt. Andrew Leaver said in a news release. “We understand there were numerous commuters in the area that may have witnessed this assault, or that may have relevant information. We’re asking those people to come forward to tell us about what they saw.”

Any witnesses who haven’t yet spoken to police are asked to contact Major Crime Unit investigators at 604-529-2430.
