An 84-year-old Burnaby woman involved in a single-vehicle collision later died after suffering what initially appeared to be non-life-threatening injuries.
The New Westminster Police Department and the Integrated Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Service are investigating a single-vehicle collision that occurred on Thursday, April 3 at about 11:40 a.m. at Cumberland Street and East Seventh Avenue.
According to a NWPD news release, BC Emergency Health Services paramedics transported one person to hospital with what appeared at the time to be non-life threatening injuries. However, two days later, investigators learned that person had died.
“Our Major Crime Unit has taken conduct of this investigation,” said NWPD Sgt. Andrew Leaver. “This is a tragic event, and our thoughts are with the family of this individual.”
All the contributing factors of this incident are still under investigation, said the police department.
The New Westminster Police Department told the Record the Integrated Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Service did not attend the scene but has been in touch with the Major Crime Unit and is providing its technical expertise.
